This is a primary sketch for a t-shirt design incorporating one of the skull drawings done earlier this year. I am planning on screen printing some t-shirts in the coming weeks and I'm starting to do some initial drawings already. This idea will surely develop over the next few weeks till I'm happy with it.

Much loved travelling companion was humanely put to sleep after a long illness developed from a wound in his side. Be at peace buddy, EEEEEAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!

'Mae Hong Son, Thailand. Watercolour on paper. 2010.
Just found my old bag of watercolours and most of them have dried up and had to be thrown out. I did this quick little sketch to get my head around the colour for my next oil piece in the school holidays.

'Mae Hong Son, Thailand", Oil on Board, 2010.
Dark picture. I always have problems taking pictures as, no matter what type of light, the thick paint casts lots of little shadows all over the image.

'Castlepoint', Oil on Board, 2010.
Not happy with this but the first one after a break doesn't usually work out.

Untitled, Oil on Paper, 1994.
The last painting I posted here was from my first year at art school, this is one year further back from my 7th form art folio.

Untitled, Oil on board, 1995.
Whilst running through the old art school images I found this, probably the first piece I did at art school.

Untitled, oil on board, 1995.
Another piece from an old art school slide, this time from the end of my first year. The idea was to take characters from popular culture and place them out of context in Wanganui settings.

Another dark photo, very difficult to take pictures in this crappy weather.

'Mowhanau', 1998.
Mowhanau Beach is a fifteen minute drive north of Wanganui where two small rivers flow into the sea beside small cliffs. It was a place that featured often in my work during my last year of art school. This image is from an old slide.

Detail of Falconet's 'Menacing Cupid', pencil on paper, 2010.
Dark photo due to crappy weather but this needs a little more work anyway.

Detail from Bernini's 'The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa'. Pencil on paper, 2010.
"If I had not already created the heavens, I would create them just for you", the quote on a banner above the sculpture. This photo is a bit dark though.

'Gisleni's Grave, S.M. del Popola', pencil on paper, 2010.
Watching a movie the other night, I saw the carved 'memento mori' from Gisleni's grave in the Santa Maria del Popola church in Rome. I found a picture of it on the internet and drew this picture from that, I'm reasonably happy with this but it does need some work.

I found some old and worn slides from art school and have had them put into digital form. The original photo's aren't the best but they give an idea of what my first landscapes were like.

Ellie May, aka the 'Paeroa Princess', aka 'Lady Muck', aka 'The Runt', aka 'Smellie Ellie', likes to sleep sitting up on her bum on the couch like a person and has done ever since the photo this was drawn from, was taken at six weeks old. I'm not usually one for realistic drawings as I usually just scribble information down for paintings, but this is a nice change.

At the end of last year I made some clay skulls with a class of junior kids. Yesterday I was bored and decided to paint a couple. I really love crudely painted objects, especially on wood, and will probably look to do more of this sort of thing in the future, although I'm not happy with these two.

I made my first visit to Castlepoint nearly two years ago after seeing pictures of the interesting landforms on a postcard. Such has been the backlog of work that I have to do, that in three weeks time (school holidays) I will finally get a chance to paint it in oil, probably three times.
